Addendum:
LUMATEQequipmentthatisdirectlyconnectedtoACmains(e.g.120/220/277VAC)canbedamagedbyshortcircuitandoverload
conditions.Inaddition,lightningsurgesorloadswitchingtransients(originatingoutsidethebulb)cancreatevoltagespikesorringwaves
thatcanstressandultimatelydamagecomponentsandrenderthextureinoperable.GiventhatthevaluepropositionforLEDbulbsis
notonlylowerenergyusage,butlongerlifetimes,itwillbecrucialthattransientvoltageprotectionistakenintoaccounttoeliminateeld
failuresdrivenbytheelectricalenvironment.
Ensurethefollowingstepsaretakentodecreasethechanceofdamagefromshortcircuitsandoverloadconditions:
1. Donotusemechanicaltimersorcontactorstoswitchonthelamp.Thesecontactsareknown
toproducevoltagespikeswhicharedetrimentaltothecircuitryofthelamp.
Itisrecommendedtouseasolidstaterelaytoprovidepowertothexture.
2. Replaceoldcircuitbreakers,ascorrodedcontactsonboththebusbarandinternalcontacts
ofthebreakercancausedestructiveelectricalspikes.
3. Useasurgeprotectiondevice(SPD)spanningbothLine,NeutralandGround.
ThesedevicescontainMOV’s(ametaloxidevaristor)whichcanhelpprotecttheLEDbulbfrom
overvoltagesurgesandring-waveeffectsbyclampingshort-durationvoltageimpulsesasshownindrawing.
